2008 MERCEDES BENZ C-CLASS WHAT MERCEDES BENZ HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS CAR: Image/Text Source: Mercedes Benz From the bold and athletic stance to the revolutionary safety features, the all-new C-Class hasn't so much been redesigned as it's been reconceived. Recently debuting in Germany and currently scheduled to arrive here in the U.S. this summer, the 2008 C-Class reveals a technical superiority beneath taut lines and tranquil surfaces. Available in two unique models sport sedan and luxury sedan the all-new C-Class offers an impressive list of exciting features, including:
the all-new 2008 C-Class promises to elevate the drive to all-new levels of excitement. From Wikipedia: DaimlerChrysler introduced a new generation of the C-Class on January 18, 2007 [2] and displayed it in the 2007 Geneva Auto Show. Sales started on March 31, 2007 in almost all European countries. The new vehicle has an extended wheelbase and tracks, a stiffer bodyshell and a design inspired by the most recent S-Class and some hints from the CLS-Class. The model has three levels of equipment - Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde. A high performance AMG version with a 6.2 L engine will follow, likely to be labelled C63AMG. The Classic and Elegance lines retain the traditional Mercedes-Benz radiator grill, with a three-point star bonnet emblem. The Avantgarde line has a grill similar to that on Mercedes' sport coupe models, with three horizontal bars and a large centre-mounted star. In the U.K. the Avantgarde line is known as the C-Class Sport [3], and will come with an AMG bodykit, and AMG alloy wheels as standard. Mercedes plans on redesigning the entire C-Class lineup with saloon and estate versions - while the Sportcoupé will remain based on the W203 chassis - coming out throughout 2007 and 2008. There will be an increase of component-sharing with other Mercedes' models, namely the redesigned E- and S-Class, as well as the upcoming GLK-Class compact SUV. Versions of the car will be available with a choice of rear- and all-wheel drive (in the latter case an improved version of the 4MATIC system), along with a variety of four- and six-cylinder engines. Engines will most likely be the straight-4 M271 and V6 M272 petrol engines and straight-4 OM611 + OM651 and V6 OM642 Diesel engines. Six speed manual transmissions is standard on the all models (except C 350) and the 7G-TRONIC seven-gear automatic transmission are available on six-cylinder engines (7G-TRONIC is for C 230K, C 280 and C 320 CDI available and for C 350 standard) and a five speed automatic is available on the four cylinder models. The development
of the W204 C-Class included the use of a digital prototype,
which put a 2.1 terabyte digital replica of the car through an exhaustive
15 million mile road course. This is an industry first, and allowed
for crash testing and more, before a physical prototype was actually
constructed. OUR TAKE ON THE 2008 MERCEDES BENZ C-CLASS: The 2008 Mercedes Benz C-Class is a refreshing update for the W203 era that lasted the good part of a decade. The all new entry level sedan from the worlds largest manufacturer steals styling cues from the top of the line S-class that was revealed no more than 2 years ago. The new C-class loses the signature twin circular lamps that graced the post 2000 era MB models in favor of a contemporary rectangular clear lens design. Perhaps the most striking element of the new C-class is the sharper and more aggressive rear end. The previous W203 sported a bland and boxy rear end while the new rear provides a much more muscular look on par with the Audi A4 and all new BMW 3 Series sedan. Just as in the previous model, the C-class is availible in both Sport and Luxury packages. The sport sedan is offered as a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic, and with two engin packages: a 3.0 liter 228 hp engine and a 3.5 liter 268 horsepower engine. The Luxury package is only availible with the 3.0 liter engine. Exterior styling on the sport model mimics the upcoming C63 AMG on the light side of aggressiveness with a beefy new front grille. The Luxury series features a more conservative front valence and skirting. Interior upgrades boast an all new upgraded venting system that uses computational fluid dynamics to achieve increased air flow to all passengers, as well as a new split side heating/cooling system as seen on the IS 350. The new C-class will be availible for sale in the USA in September 2007. Also check out the new Mercedes Benz C-63 AMG.
